How To Take A Family Portrait
The finest pictures we have are probably those taken with our family members during joyful times. These pictures are usually shot when we least know it. But as they are easy to take with our digital cameras and camera phones, perhaps we require a little more official to show the next generation. A family photograph professionally shot is what we need this time.
A family portrait is as much for the benefit of the subsequent generations as it is ours. It is the supreme family tribute, something that will tell the children of our children their family history. It also celebrates our achievements as family. Every member added and every candle we blow on our cake is worthy of a family portrait. And moreover, it’s tradition. So even though we have a lot of family pictures already, they are good for our photo album. Family portraits need a more professional treatment.
Every family portrait of course involves the whole family. And with every typical family, children are always present. children will always act as children so it is almost guaranteed that the picture take won’t finish in just a few minutes. Sitting still for a couple of minutes isn’t their strong point. Make sure that you have enough candies and toys to bribe them into behaving. Make them relaxed as much as possible also. This is also true for the elder family members. The warmth from the photographer’s lights or, if the photo shoot takes place al fresco, from the sunlight can wear them down. Take their meds as a preventive measure and assign a room or shade area for them to relax.
Confer with your family the style of picture you will shoot. If you have to, vote on the most popular recommendations so everybody will feel involved. You can have an outdoor photo or take it indoors. Then discuss what theme you would like. Traditional family portraits go for formal shots, but it would also be exciting to have a theme like all-red motif photo or mafia-themed shot where everyone gets to wear mafia boss-like suits and attire. After agreeing on the picture treatment, inform your photographer and let him direct the show from then on. Just remember to avoid eminent landmarks as backgrounds because the attention of the photo will divert to the backdrop.
Finally, accept the fact that not everybody has a perfect smile. You might expect your family to have flawless Barbie and Ken smiles, but realize that if some might smirk or others might refuse to smile at all then it is just okay. You would want to show each one’s personality more than to incorporate a little formality in the photo because nothing is more depressing than a family photograph featuring members sporting false smiles.
