Photographing The Beauty Of Sunrises And Sunsets

Two of my favorite theme subjects are sunsets and sunrises. Anywhere I vacation, I make certain to be in a spot where I can shoot twice per day. This normally includes checking out places early so that you’re in the right spot when the magic occurs.

Nice shadows, vivid textures and warm colors are hallmarks of a sunrise. Some clouds provide drama to either a sunrise or a sunset. During sunset or sunset, clouds offer blue or pink colors. A nice picture option is shooting the rising sun on a mountain while said mountain gets reflected in a body of water. Typically, these bodies of water are still at sunrise, making nice reflection pictures. If said water has a tiny ripple in it, so much the better. This impressionistic shot will be all the better.
When shooting before sunrise, use a white balance setting of cloudy if you do not want a bluish cast to your digital photos. Sometimes you will to impart the mood as was at the time.
Sunsets
Much of the silhouetting/metering suggestions are consistent. Still, here are a few sunset-only photo suggestions. Sunset light’s richer in color & more orange when compared to sunrise light. If shooting right after the sun’s gone down, meter just off the sky for an afterglow. If an afterglow appears, you’re going to have to motor since it won’t last for long.
A good time to shoot cityscapes is after the sun has set and the building lights in the city have just come on. There will still be some light in the west. The mauve background and building lights make for a pleasant digital photo. Meter directly off the sky. With your sensor set at ISO 100, your meter readings should be around 1/30 at f4.
